Loving Myself by Elizabeth - February 2017 Scholarship Essay

Depression has been a problem for a long time. I used to not even be able to look in the mirror. I have always had a problem with my weight. I hated my appearance. Life was dreadful. I have not been happy with myself for as long as I can remember. I have failed at loving myself.
As a kid, I was always taller than the other girls. I did not look like them. I hated my red hair. I hated jeans. I did not wear what the other girls would wear. I was never comfortable in my own skin. I wanted to be tan, and blonde. I was the girl that was super quiet, never voiced my opinion, and was also picked on. I fell into the wrong crowd, thinking that I could be accepted. I still did not feel accepted with them. I did things in order to fit in with them.
I finally am okay. I can look in the mirror a little easier. I still am battling depression, but there is definitely an improvement. I have a lot of friends. I feel accepted by everyone. I think that I am happier now. I realized that everyone is different. I learned how to be a better person.
