The road to college success without Leadership skills by Edward - March 2015 Scholarship Essay
Every year thousands of students are poured onto college campuses across the United States with each one galvanized with the desire to learn, grow, and take on the world. Throughout the years, they will acquire the necessary skills to venture into the “real world” where they will apply their newfound knowledge. But until then, are leadership skills necessary for college success? Will the ones that do not posses these skills fail? I believe not; I believe it is possible to be successful without possessing leadership skills in college.
I believe there are three parts to a successful college career: Academic, Networking, and Self-confidence. Any student that combines these three aspects is most likely to succeed. A student who performs well on the academic aspect is impressive to future employers as well as the institution. Though grades are extremely important, the combination of strong networking skills can ameliorate the chances of college success. Finding employment and internship opportunities through networking has far greater odds than the tedious and trite search on the internet. Lastly the final piece to college success is how much you grow as a person. Whether it is coming out of your shell and being more out-spoken like my college experience was or perhaps discovering certain paths are better than the one you initially decided to embark on. Having the confidence to pursue your dreams and goals and not letting anything squelch you on your path will complete the journey to college success.
Leadership skills in college are not mandatory. Students who do not seek or acquire it will not fail or have a less desired collegiate success story. Not every student will need to have it based on their college goals. Though it is usually incorporated in college studies through classes, club organization, and seminars, not everyone will gravitate towards this skill and it will not be a downfall if it is not learned. The three aspects of college success: academics, networking, and self confidence is what the student needs to have a college success.
