My Imigration story First essay by Eduardo - March 2020 Scholarship Essay
Hi. My name is Eduardo Aguayo Orozco. My father and mother are from Jalisco,Mexico. My father and mother came to the United States in 2000 to find a better life and ensure a better life for us.
I was born in 2001 in Alexandria, Virginia, where we lived in a trailer park. Unfortunately, after some time, my parents did not like being away from their native country, their family, and friends. They missed their country, Mexico. We returned to Mexico in 2003. As we were starting our lives over in Jalisco, Mexico, after a little time in 2003, my father died in a automobile crash. He was the leader of the family. He was very loved by many people - friends as well as family. It was a terrible loss for me and my family. I mourn not really knowing him.
I grew up in Mexico. When I was 6 years old, in the year 2007, my mother, sister and I moved to the city of Guadalajara.I made friends of all kinds in my new school. When I was 14 I started to work for my neighbor about 30 hours a week making cloth bags and backpacks. I spent my money on food and clothing. When I was 15 I started working for my family’s vegetable and fruit stand. We would wake up early, purchase the produce from the farmers, and replenish our stand. It was then that I began to dream about obtaining a good future and my ambition grew. I loved working and being responsible, and helping with all of the tasks, from sweeping to whatever was needed. I started to develop future goals. I would tell my family about my goals and they would laugh. They meant well, but they didn’t realize how serious I was. Everyone in my family knew that I wanted to return to the United States to live, study, and live.
I finished middle school in Mexico and my uncle Jorge invited me to come to Maryland to work. My uncle Jorge is my mother’s brother. He is an immigrant that works in construction as my father used to. My uncle Jorge helped me with the invitation to work here and study here. I made a lot of friends here who also helped me along.
Now I am finishing my high school in Frederick. I am now responsible for myself in terms of everything as a result of all the work I have done with my family and job. I purchase all of my clothes and tools to work. Most of the time I prepare or buy my food, and I do many things that I wouldn’t believe or think about in my childhood. I came here without knowing English,, but now I have learned how to speak and write in English, and so much more. I believe in myself. I believe I will go to college. I will do so without forgetting my story, my family, and where I came from.
