Conspiracy Obsessed by Ebony - July 2017 Scholarship Essay

If I were asked to participate in a TED Talk at this very moment I would have to discuss my guilty pleasure, conspiracies. What if the world happens to be actually flat with many edges? What if we all really did pass away in the year 2012 and we are now living in a matrix? What if the soldier in the Village People never existed? What if? We spend so much time questioning things that have been proved to us, in hopes for a different ending. Time wastes away while we don’t make use of what we know today.
There have been many nights where I have stayed up ridiculously late searching the deep dark web for the scariest conspiracy theories possible. I have no clue why, nor do the others around me. Despite that, I am not the only one. There are a plethora of videos debunking and proving popular conspiracies. Why?
We all retain a small desire to know more than we should, but it is a waste. Instead of fixating and what we will never figure out, we could utilize that time to make facts we have better. The public could band together more organizations to help defeat hunger, rather than figuring out if the government is slowly killing off the poor. In some respects, time is all we have and conspiracies are draining it.
