Numbers by earl - December 2020 Scholarship Essay
During my high school years, math was never that hard for me. I thought I was good enough with number that I would never have to study hard. I always did well in my math courses, whether it was geometry, algebra, or any course. I was able to get away with good grades in these classes with minimal effort, and I thought that this would continue on for the rest of my high school days.
This year, however, Calculus threw me a curve ball. I had been expecting it to be another easy course for me, but as soon as we had our first assignment, I was lost. Derivatives, integrals, Euler's Law, these were all foreign concepts to me. You see, previous math courses had always just been continuations of the previous one, but Calculus introduced really new concepts, not just new equations. Although Calculus is hard for me, I still find it hard to focus. This is something I'd like to change. During 2021, I would like to dedicate myself to studying and learning these calculus concepts. Something that will be very important for me in college is studying skills, and that's something that I am lacking in. However, 2021 will be a year of change. I will allocate a set time each day to learning, reviewing, and focusing on tough schoolwork, and I know that I will succeed should I do so.
2020 has been a wild ride. From the pandemic to online schooling, it has been a difficult year for all of us. A new year won't change any of it; its just a changing of numbers. However, I'd like to use this new year as a springboard into my future. I want to learn new things, explore interests, and all of that starts with a strong foundation. In order to build up my foundation, I will learn how to effectively and efficiently study. In order to do great things, one must have great habits, and I am on my way to building my own habits up.
