Energy is Contagious! by Donnie - July 2014 Scholarship Essay

Dr. Robertson – Chemistry professor, motivational speaker:

This individual taught the toughest class that I have so far taken. I spent hours upon hours studying for tests and labs and nomenclature quizzes. And even more hours writing the formal lab report. The tests were grueling and every one of them I barely finished in the 1 hour 45 minute time limit. I had no life outside of school with more ours spent on this class then on my calculus class.

Yet, out of all this, I looked forward to every single class and every single lab. I couldn't WAIT for the next lecture! His energy, his spark, his drive motivated all of us! We wanted more! We became gluttons for punishment and we loved every minute of it!

I was an avid learner but his power was like pouring gasoline on a fire – I want to learn more and more and more! Perhaps that is why I chose Saint Louis University and their Computer Engineering program over other schools – it was the hardest major that I could select! He indirectly made me want to choose the hardest option. That is just incredible considering it's human nature to want to do the easy things in life.

This was the mesmerizing power of Dr. Robertson and his commitment to our education. I highly admire him and, while I'm no chemistry major nor plan to be, I hope I can spread passion and energy to others, just as he did to us. I will miss him and I will always compare all my professors to him. Thank you, Dr. Robertson, you are a rare gem.
