A Pathway to Success by Dillan - November 2020 Scholarship Essay
The aspect of my education that I am most thankful for is the many great courses that I have taken which have set me on a path towards my career and life ambitions. I am currently in a dual enrollment Spanish course that was made possible thanks to the Dual Immersion program that I was placed in as a first grader. I am very thankful that I was placed in this program because my language fluency has helped me create connections, be considered for work positions, and help me communicate to family members that don't speak English. If this program hadn't been set in place I would most definitely not be as fluent or proficient in the language. Additionally, ever since I was younger I have wanted to work with animals in some way. Fortunately, my school is apart of the Granite School District which has career oriented courses at the Granite Technical Institute. As a result, I took an Animal Science course my junior year which further urged me to want to work with animals. I am now in the course that follows the Animal Science course which is Vet Assisting. These hands-on courses have prepared me and guided me towards a career that I wish to pursue. Being a first generation student makes me extremely grateful for these kinds of courses because they help me break that chains of past generations and step in the direction of success. I am all about getting a head start to the things I am passionate about and success is no exception.
Some other preparatory courses I am thankful for taking are AP English Language Composition and AP US History. These two courses have numerous useful lessons that I have applied to my other schoolwork and everyday life. AP courses are definitely courses to be thankful for because they have taught me at an accelerated rate and prepared me for college.
In conclusion there are many aspects of education to be thankful for but ultimately the courses that present opportunity and success are what I find to be most appreciative of. They set students up in many helpful ways such as career readiness, life skills, and larger opportunities.
