Intelligence is by Devorah - March 2015 Scholarship Essay
Typically, a leader is understood to be someone who can effectively manage a group of people. They are charismatic and know how to get people to listen to them. In the corporate world, these types of people climb the success ladder fastest and make the most money.
But to me, a leader is someone who achieves personal success and inspires others to succeed as well. A true leader does not seek to manage others, but their own self. They are in charge of their lives and do not allow themselves to be slaves to bad habits and unproductive routines. Instead of externalizing the problems in their life, a leader looks within to see what they can do differently to resolve the issues they are faced with. A leader is honest with his or herself. They know their own strengths and weaknesses, and seek to channel their natural traits in ways that are good and productive. I consider college success to mean getting good grades and learning the skills needed in order to affect positive change in the world. One needs to be responsible, respectful, committed, and ambitious in order to achieve these goals. In doing so, they become a role model to those around them, and a leader by example.
