Individualism. by Destiny - March 2017 Scholarship Essay
When thinking about what one topic I think is important enough to speak about in-front of a school-wide audience, one comes to mind. Although there are a lot of things that you can choose to talk about to an audience of kids willing to learn, I think it is important to give them speeches and information on topics they might not hear about that often in a school setting. The topic I would choose to raise awareness for is individualism. To me, individualism means being yourself, not being afraid to make mistakes and grow from them, and not being scared to be different from others around them.
So often in the school systems now, we teach kids that there is only one way to be, only one way to get to an answer, and that is not how I think we should have kids thinking. I believe it is very important for us now in the school systems, to teach kids and inspire kids to be themselves. Having children all be the same, and all do the same thing, and having them all think the same things is limiting their creativity, which is a crucial part in their development. Inspiring kids to be creative is very important and can help them express themselves. Having kids express themselves is another reason I think the idea of individualism is important. You have to allow kids to express themselves freely and let them be their own individual.
