Success is my system by Destinee - February 2021 Scholarship Essay
Success is a word that's thrown around a lot these days but isn't purposeless as it differs for everyone. Along with college's efforts to help shape society into something better than what it started off with. Success, at it's simplest form, is when you've reached a goal or a task gets successful completely. But that defeats the purpose of going or graduating from college. Learning will never be something I have "success" at; it's something I could be succeeding at. Education's helps guide a individual, who can contribute to society, about the decisions, actions and new perspectives to take on.
Success in college means that I get to use the knowledge I have. Also, a place where a type of formal education can flourish. Engaging, struggling and processing new things means a lot to me. It's similar to being a kid in the candy story. I want to meet the new information, see how it relates to me and others. And, during the 3 years, grow to have a humble o appreciation of what I went through with a hint of dissatisfaction as the questions pop into my head to encourage me to analyze and discover.
I define success by how I feel and what has happened. Success, in it's truest form, never stops. Now, I'm not talking about "sacrifice yourself, your sleep, livelihood, ect for college" or anything. But I do mean that it's a continuous process of improvement. That being passively or actively. Success in college would mean that I could apply what I learned to real life and put it into praxis. A lot of what's wrong with the education system is the lack of praxis and surplus of assignments being hurled towards us that have no direct correlation to our meaning, purpose or goals. I want to help teach children, or teens, about things and share my experience. Like a mentor of sorts. Success in college means that I feel like the information I took in was useful and that I can give use back. I could really care less or not if it was the highest grade or not. When I'm on my death bed, I'll want to know that I helped with what I could've. Success is when I now that I've made a difference based on what I was given. I was able to fly free with the new pair of wings that helped guide me. That's what success graduation college means to me.
