College Importance? by DeShawn - April 2020 Scholarship Essay
What are the important goals that you want to achieve? What must you do to achieve these goals? Answering these questions can help anyone decide what is most important to them, helping them achieve these goals as efficiently as possible. For some it could be graduating high school, and for others it could be attending college and maybe going as far as graduate or professional school. Although some may say college is not important, I would beg to differ because going to college allows one to have access to better opportunities, which can produce better benefits, and can help one become financially stable. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics a person will earn more money with a college degree than someone with a high school diploma. So, one could say going to college is like saying the more you learn the more you earn. An example of this, is someone who wants to go into the medical field.
For example, my career goals are becoming a veterinarian and work with small animals, as well as owning my own veterinary clinic. As a student working in the Vet Tech Assistant Practicum Program in Arlington ISD, I am a step closer to my career goals. The practicum allows students to work in real-world scenarios in a vet hospital or clinic and earn hours needed to obtain certification. My experience has allowed me to work with animals in these various ways, such as drawing blood, running fecal flotations, running heartworm tests, administering medication, restraining fractious animals, and helping in the surgery room. This has allowed me to gain more knowledge about what goes on throughout the day at a veterinary clinic. However, to reach my career goals I must attend college and veterinary medical school. Therefore, attending college for some is required and important in order for one to reach their goals.
Upon graduating high school my next step toward reaching my goals is to attend college. In order to reach my goals, I will need financial support and applying and receiving this scholarship will help me get one step closer. During my senior year, I was injured in a game and had surgery. The cost of surgery and physical therapy has placed an unforeseen financial burden on my family. This coupled with having two siblings in college and two other family members recovering from surgery has encouraged me to apply for support to help reach my college goals. This scholarship will bring me one step closer to helping me reach my goals of obtaining my bachelor’s degree then attending Vet School and obtain my VMD.
