Help Me, Help You by Deelyte - May 2014 Scholarship Essay
When it comes to education there is a lot of advice that comes from different people. There is the advice that comes from family; work hard, do your best, choose a career that you will love, and always have a back up plan. Than there is the advice that you get from your professors; do what you want to do not what your family wants you to do, strive for your goals, and never give up. These are all well and good for students but its advice that has been passed down from generation to generation. In the twenty first century what educational advice can a student receive that is new?
The best educational advice that I have received is “help me, help you”. This advice not only goes for the students but for the professors as well. How can a professor help a student if the student doesn’t tell the professor what is going on? When the professor says “help me, help you” it makes the student realize that they need to speak up in order to get the help the need. Now if the student says “help me, help you” the professor understands that their jobs depend on their rating with the students. When a student says “help me, help you” the professor should help the student because that will be one student that will respect the professor for helping them. When it comes to educational advice I prefer the saying “help me, help you” because everyone helps everyone out and its not one sided.
