Swim for Life by David - December 2013 Scholarship Essay

Swimming on my high school's varsity swim team has given me the opportunity to be part of a team that pushes me everyday I am at practice. I have been able to accomplish many of my swim goals and I am only half way through the season. I have lettered in the 50 freestyle and qualified for the South Zone Texas Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association Championship.

Swimming has made me strong and I have increased my endurance even more this season. I have ran in many 5k runs and in the past couple of years I have started placing in the top three of my age category.

I have learned the importance of making goals and following through with them. I have my swim goals in a picture frame on top of my piano and on my mirror in my room where I see them everyday. Seeing my goals everyday is a constant reminder of what I am working towards and it helps me stay focused.

I have learned discipline and consistency are a huge part of having success. I get up early and make it to practice even when I am super tired or it is really cold or rainy outside. My body wants to sleep and stay warm in bed but the commitment I have made to myself and my team are stronger and I get up.

Preparing ahead of time has helped me be successful each day at practice. I have my cloths and gear ready the night before and I make sure my alarm is set and there is gas in the car. Before each swim meet I have my bag set out so I just get everything and I grab it and go. Now I can focus on having a great swim and an awesome time!
