Attending College by Darby - April 2020 Scholarship Essay

Is attending college important? There are so many different ways to look at this question. There are so many different variables in a persons life that could affect their decision to go to college. Many students in high school right now are asking themselves if college is really worth it. There are a plethora of jobs our there that do not require a college education. Trade schools offer excellent choices for many people. There are also military options that pay very well. Many students that go away to college often have to come home due to stress, anxiety, and depression that can be brought on by everyday college responsibilities. Often after students graduate from college they have to move back home to pay off exorbitant student debt. This being said, there are also so many positives to going to college. Going to college has been proven to get you more reliable and stable jobs. College also is the first stepping stone for getting out of mom and dad's house and starting your adult life. College is a time to really get to know yourself and refine who you want to become. For some, college gives extra time to pursue dreams of acting, performing, or playing sports. It really all comes down to a personal choice. What is best for each person that will help them to achieve their goals?

Me? I have chosen to go to college so that I can work towards my goal of working in Food and Nutrition. I will also be a college athlete, playing soccer. Many college athletes receive scholarships however,I will be receiving very little money to play soccer. I have injured both of my knees, and while I am doing well now and working every day so as not to get injured again, my coach is not willing to spend money on someone who has been injured on three different ocassions. Therefore, I am trying to be vigilant and find other means to help reduce burden of college debt that will fall squarely on my shoulders.
