Leadership: The Building Blocks for Everything by Danny - March 2015 Scholarship Essay
Not everyone can be a leader. This is most noticed in high school. There are those who have strong initiative and don't need to be told what to do or how to do it, and there are those who follow the people with the initiative. Most people who are followers don't realize that after high school, they won't have anyone to follow. They'll need to lead themselves in the direction that's best for them. That's why I believe leadership isn't just important in college, but life in general.
In college, leadership skills go so far towards success. Those who are leaders help themselves and those around them. By being a leader, a person is striving to know as much as possible so they don't have to rely on others to accomplish their goals. They figure out what needs to be done and the best ways to do that, and they execute. I always see leaders as independents. They don't need to have someone holding their hands through every step, and that's so important in college. People need to learn to be independent and be leaders in college because no one looks out for you better than yourself. In a world where jobs are so competitive, they only person looking out for your best interest has to be yourself, otherwise no one will make it in this world. Being a leader means doing what's best for you while showing others the best ways. Leading does not mean helping others do their job, it's showing people the best ways by example.
