Take a Chill Pill. by Danielle - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

After almost six years of on and off scholarly pursuits and general real life experience I believe my current 2016 resolution will help me in my current, and more realistic, educational goals. What I set for myself in 2016 is this; take time for yourself and go at your own pace.
After graduating high school in 2010 I came out the gate swinging. I grabbed every prerequisite, extra credit, after school activity I could get my hands on. I burnt out quick. And even quicker my next few tries as well.
Now I am 23 years old. I've lived a couple of extremely reckless years and now I have a baby and a family to motivate my returning to school. But in the past couple of years I've learned something wonderful that I plan to take with me into 2016 and that is; life isn't a race. Stop comparing yourself to the chick in your class that is on her way to Harvard, seriously, just be happy you even exist and have the opportunity to be a part of all that is around you! Life is too short to always be looking around to see who is winning, or losing, or even with you. Just do you and do it at your own pace. We all reach the same destination in the end, don't we?
Now, while this may sound like vague life advise, I'm telling you: take another look at your classes, your work load, your social needs. It is better to take an extra year and keep your hair then to kill yourself every semester for one or two years. We all want to be the genius that can take on the world but the world is far too cruel and uncaring to give two flicks what we want. So this go around I'll take my time, smell the roses, and actually let the knowledge seep in this time.
