It is very important to be able to bring at least some sort of a leadership skill set to college. This is important because if you do not have any leadership skills whatsoever, you will not be able to be a self-reliant student and you will always need somebody to be there for you to catch you when you are falling. If you have no prior leadership skills, you will struggle making decisions and not be able to think for yourself. In terms of having leadership skills, you would be able to self-advocate, and speak to your professors and have the confidence to ask for help if needed.

If you are able to bring some leadership skills with you to college, you will be more ready for any projects in college where you are required to work in groups. Leadership skills would help you in this situation because as a leader, you are able to communicate and work well in a group, and you will be able to take control of the group if necessary to accomplish any task that needs to be done.

Lastly, leaders tend to attract people to them. If you bring leadership skills to college with you, you are likely going to be able to make friends fairly easily and build lasting relationships. Let’s be honest, college is not just about getting your education, it is also about building lasting relationships and developing a network so you are able to get farther in your own life. If you do not have leadership skills, it is going to be harder to attract these people and it will be harder to build a network of people that can help you once you are out of college.

Overall, leadership skills are necessary in college, not only for academic success, but for building relationships and building a network of people that can help you when you are out of college and moving into the real world. Without these leadership skills you may be able to make it through college, but it will most likely not be a very pleasant experience and you will have to overcome many obstacles throughout your college career.
