Time Management by Daisy - January 2022 Scholarship Essay
A skill I strengthened in 2021 that was important to my academic success was time management. I never really took the time to plan out when I would do my assignments my first two years of high school. I felt that I was too busy or could turn in my assignments on time when that simply wasn’t the case. The stress caught up to me when I ended up doing work the day before the deadline. There was a system or schedule for me to follow when it came to schoolwork.
Near the end of my Junior year in 2021, I started to write down deadlines on sticky notes to give myself time to do the assignment. The notes helped me plan how many days I would need to work on assignments and get a head start on organizing my notes for future assignments. I couldn’t bring my sticky notes with me everywhere and the notes would fall off easily, so I converted to using reminders on my phone. I noticed that I wasn’t so stressed about schoolwork because I was able to submit an assignment on time without worrying about taking the whole day to complete it. My grades were exceptionally high and I was able to maintain a 4.0 GPA.
Time management was always a weakness for me when it came to schoolwork. The weakness turned into a strength when I decided to plan out my days and focus on my grades more. I am proud to say that I never missed an assignment for over a year. I hope to keep improving on my time management skills when I enter college because I know I will have even less time to do my assignments or projects. I also hope to develop another skill within the 2021-2022 school year.
