Let Go by Courtnie - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

My new year’s resolution is to let go of the past and my depression. By doing so, I am ridding my brain of all of the junk that I have held onto for years. This junk contains past relationships, past mistakes, and other bad things that are not necessary for me to able to go about my life. Letting go of this junk has picked up a huge weight off my shoulder, making me a almost stress free. I have less worries because I do not care what my old friends are doing, who they are talking to, or what they are talking about. My sleepless nights have turned into me hanging out with friends, instead of me lying in bed alone thinking about mistakes from my past. From now on, my days will contain more fun and less worrying. More studying, and less stressing.
Stress is the number one cause of depression in teens and young adults. Being depressed just made me feel worthless. It stopped me from being able to do simple tasks like sleeping and eating. Letting go of the bad parts of my past has helped me to become who I am. I have learned from my all of my mistakes, and I am not in a different chapter of my life. Letting go will help me as a student because I am more relaxed now, which has been proven to help with studies. Tense students do not pass. I also feel much happier. I actually fall asleep at night now, and have started eating more. Waking up for class will be much easier now that I can actually sleep at night. I cannot wait to see what this year holds for me as a person and a student!
