A Little Money Goes A Long Way by Corene - March 2014 Scholarship Essay
Although I am in my second year of college at The University of Arizona, one of my greatest academic achievements remains to be when I was awarded The Arizona Board of Regent’s High Honors Tuition Scholarship during my senior year of high school. This is also known as the AIMS Scholarship and is awarded to students who exceed on all parts of the AIMS tests and maintain more than a “B” average. As a senior in high school I was counting down the minutes until graduation, but what I did not realize was the huge amount of change I would soon go through on my own. I had no idea at the time what a significant impact on my life this scholarship would have.
At the University of Arizona, I became very motivated in pursing academic excellence and being involved around campus. I set high goals for myself that I will continue to work toward through my time here. I was recently accepted into The Eller College of Management where I am working toward a degree in finance. After I graduate, I plan on attending Law School so that someday I can incorporate a law degree and a finance degree into a career path that inspires me to succeed and help the community around me. I am very interested in both of these areas and I am excited to expand my knowledge and learn as much as I can from the resources around me.
I currently serve as the treasurer of a Greek Organization with over 270 members. I have recently started this position, but have already grown so much in many skill sets; including leadership, organization, communication, and confidentiality. Serving as the Treasurer, I have started to understand how money can make such an impact on not only people as individuals, but on the community and world as a whole. Being a part of such a large organization has taught me so much more than I ever thought possible in personal and professional areas. This would never have been possible if I did not attend the U of A and I can’t imagine how different my life would be without this amazing experience.
When I think back over the last year and a half that I have attended the U of A, I realize that nothing would have been possible if it were not for my academic achievements in high school. Two years ago I had no idea I would be sitting here today so grateful for the opportunity to learn and share my knowledge with the world around me. I am inspired to always push through and never give up until I reach my goals. The growth and development I have experienced in a year and a half is exceptional and I am thrilled to continue through the four years. I will always hold myself to a high standard when it comes to academic excellence. I am so proud of my accomplishments and I know if I keep my mind focused, many more are on their way.
