Financial Education by Coral - August 2015 Scholarship Essay

So many students today have no idea how to do simple financial problems. It is something that is required in order to handle money successfully and parents do not always have the time or desire to educate their children. I would add a required class where students learn simple accounting information, balancing checkbooks, loans/debts, etc.

I also think it would be beneficial for students to have one-on-one financial advising. I think that advisors should help them plan out how much their college education will cost, help them apply for financial aid and scholarships, help them work out a budget, etc. Like I said, very few students have the recourses at home to be successful in this area, which is why I feel like putting this in a school could be beneficial for them.

Other math classes are important as well, however not very many students end up applying what they have learned in their career or everyday life. Learning how to manage money is applicable for anyone, no matter what his or her career choice is.

I am currently going to school to be a teacher, and would hope someday to try to get this subject involved in school requirement programs.
