Ever Changing Success by Cora - February 2021 Scholarship Essay
Success, like beauty, has no distinct universal definition but rather changes based on place, time, individual, and circumstance. For me, success is the ability to create my own individual in which I am satisfied. Success to me is full happiness in myself and what I have accomplished.
Success in my education is the ability to soak in information that transforms and enlightens my view of the world. Success is my ability to be educated to the degree that I see fit and satisfies my hungry brain.
Success to me is thinking short term. Small achievable goals that place me on the path to a larger one. I hope to gain relationships that help me to make connections and allow me greater access to resources to guiding me to my goals. Success is a tool of a concept that allows for motivation.
Success is this thing to strive for that creates a vessel to achievement, but as success has an ever-changing definition it is never achieved but rather a tool to making the mind happy. Emily Dickinson writes, “Success is counted sweetest / By those who ne'er succeed. . . . . .The distant strains of triumph / Burst agonized and clear!” She alludes to the problem of liminality within the concept of success. The ever-changing definition of success leads me to believe that success is growth and change over time.
