Biggest Goal for the School Year by Cora - September 2020 Scholarship Essay

Every year we set goals for ourselves. Big or small they are important to progressing in life. At my age, most goals revolve around school and what you want to accomplish during the school year. My biggest goal for the school year is to get into a college that I truly want to go to.
Getting into and going to college has always been a huge goal for me. I am a first generation college student and I have seen first hand the effects of not having a college degree. Neither of my parents have a college degree of any kind and they both dropped out of high school at my age. I have always been taught not to go down the same path that they did. There have been many many struggles in their and my life because of their lack of education. My mom is stuck in a job that she hates because she doesn’t have a degree. I want to make a change in my family and that change will start by me getting into college, which is exactly why that is my biggest goal.
Part of my goal is getting into a college I truly want to go to. I do not want to be stuck somewhere that I don’t totally love for four years. I also want to make sure that where I am going will have job opportunities for when I graduate college. Getting into a good school and loving it is so important because I do not want to have to come back home and stay in Wilmington the rest of my life. College is a time to try new things and go new places, so that is why I need to accomplish my goal of getting into a college that I will love.
Getting into a college that I am excited to go to will mean everything to my family and I. That is why it is my biggest goal. My parents have always had faith in my academics and I hope to make them proud on decision day. I know their biggest goal for their life is to have a successful daughter and hopefully I will be able to achieve that goal for them.
