Left Behind by Collin - October 2020 Scholarship Essay

Left Behind is a book about the rapture of the Christian people at the end of the world. It describes what might happen when the Christians are raptured and what the world, might look like afterwards. It follows a prestigious pilot, Rayford Steele, who is a non-believer even though his wife is. It tells how he faced this huge challenge and how he helps his daughter try to get through this time.
Rayford is on a flight when a flight attendant tells him that about half of his passengers are gone. He makes his way to an open airport and lands the plane. When they arrive at the airport, they see wrecked cars and pure chaos all around them. Rayford gets to a phone booth in the airport and tries to call his family but they don't answer. He gets on a helicopter with the flight attendant and gets dropped off near his house. When he gets there, he sees that his wife and son have been raptured. When his daughter gets home he tries to convince her that they need to start going to church. At first she doesn't want to but she finally gives in. They start going to church and Rayford gets very involved in it.
Also in the book there is a man named Buck. He is a senior writer at a newspaper company and is following many religious and political leaders. Buck is also a non-believer and doesn't really know what to think of the whole event. Buck ends up becoming a believer and later discovers who the Anti-Christ is. To do this he must go through many challenges including his job and his carreer.
Both Rayford and Buck must accept that there is a Christ and an Anti-Christ even thought they have lived most of there lives as non-believers. They both must go through many trials to find the answers to all of their questions. With a little help from some friends they end up finding Christ and the Anti-Christ.
