Colleges are what every parent wants to see their child attend when the time comes. It is the point in time where a student transitions from teenager in high school into an independent adult. It is an opportunity to truly discover what a student's talents area and how they can be implemented in the modern world. Obtaining an education in a specific field gives the student an edge, having certain knowledge that others may not.
Since the first day of 9th grade when I stepped into my high school building, a track record was building up, containing all of my grades to the specific number of absences. Every homework assignment and every test that was taken is kept tucked away until graduation starts creeping up. That's when college mail starts to appear in the mailbox every so often. Those colleges see if a student is the right candidate to fill in their ideal student, and typically the better GPA a student has, the better chance they get at receiving those letter in the mail. During all of this hard work, the question emerges, "Is college important to me and is it something that is in my foreseeable future?" All students must have this thought pop up in their heads as the graduation deadline approaches.
I believe that college is important because it is a great way to establish your person and network yourself and an independent person. With so many specific majors available, along with other classes that apply, you are sure to find a tailored degree that fits with your interest. I am personally interested in perusing a business administration degree to give me the skill set in order to have a detailed perspective on the business world. Although academics are very important, extra curricular activities are also weighted heavily when determining where you stand in the midst of the college atmosphere. At college, there are countless groups and organizations that may have not been offered during high school. It is a great way to get involved in the school community and make your mark to your peers.
Although there is some vigorous work involved to get accepted into a college, the outcome is well worth it. Obtaining a degree leaves you well equipped to pursue whichever profession of your choice with confidence. It gives you proper organization skills and charisma to serve a purpose in this rapidly changing world.
