Common sense can be defined as the natural ability to understand, judge and comprehend basic principles shared by the majority. Common sense thoughts and ideas can be presented in a large setting and easily agreed upon with little to no deliberation. Allowing someone to be ingrained from young school level, age with something as simple as common sense will provide them with the most effective tool necessary to navigate through life. Many may disagree that common sense is a skill that cannot be taught, explaining that it's an instinct brought about by exposure to extreme circumstances or a series of painful life lessons. By implementing a curriculum from a young age with school children will undoubtedly prove that common sense can be taught.

Common sense or the lack thereof is very evident in our modern day society from the moment our alarm goes off in the morning. Common sense tells us, don't press snooze or you'll be late for work and jeopardize your lively hood. As we embark on our transit to our jobs common sense says obey the rules of the road and wear your seatbelt or you may endanger your life or another motorist. Once we arrive at work, common sense tells us abide by your job description and display the basics of effective customer service or you may soon be in need of a new source of income. The cautionary tales can go on and on but we can see the big picture, common sense is the thought process that we most heavily rely on simply to stay alive and maintain our status in our community. A lack of or shortcomings in this basic thought process is monumental.

Introducing a curriculum that not only teaches young students skills necessary to improve their common sense, but clearly and concisely show them the ramifications of ignoring them is essential to a developing mind, body and character. A greater emphasis on this topic can dramatically improve the outlook on today's generation. Students who find themselves in predicaments or a place of reprehend often utter the words, "I didn't know" or "I just wasn't thinking" and by then its oftentimes too late to reverse the consequences of their actions. Providing students with regimented classes that teach them how to sharpen their common sense life skills will allow them to build an indestructible foundation for life. The curriculum of the class can vary depending on the demographics of the student being taught. Common sense class can be applied to topics such as personal relationships, academic endeavors, workplace behavior, financial planning and especially social media etiquette.

An ounce of prevention truly is worth a pound of cure. Our once is developing classes and lesson plans to improve our school students common sense. The value of providing students with the knowledge needed to think their way out of any challenging situation is extremely valuable. Valuable enough that if implemented correctly, we as a society will be able to undeniably reap the benefits.
