The Qualities of Having Film as a Club by Cindy - September 2019 Scholarship Essay

Film has become a major aspect in our lives since the creation of movies. Film is what connects people together that love certain genres of movies, creating a special bond between them. Creating a film club, encourage students to become creative, social, and allows them to explore diverse topics.
Kids are born as natural storytellers and should be encouraged to learn how to make their own film. As they grow older, they increase their ability to create many different worlds. There are various clubs that people do not find interesting because it does not line up with their career interest or interest in general. Personally, at our school there are not many clubs involved in the arts. We have an art club, but it focuses on many different types of art as it does not focus on a singular type of art. A film club gives a student to be part of something, that gives them happiness. Film club teachers see that creating films makes students more emotionally receptive to learning. Encouraging students to use their own ideas and own imagination opens up a new portal of what they can do on their own. Allowing students to use their own creativity encourages opportunities to learn on a deeper level and develop skills that will make them successful in the “real world.” Even though students may find it challenging to create original ideas, it allows them to solve their own problems to succeed in filming. In today’s time we are surrounded with videos; creating videos can be an essential tool for sharing ideas and information.
Teaching film allows students to think and communicate in today’s universal language.
Creating films does not always have a hero and a villain or happy ever after ending. Films do not always have to be fictional; they can be about any social current or past event that impacts our lives. Film can function as a mirror of what is going on in our society, it helps us to understand and critique our culture. Films can create discussion and create a social impact, by creating these types of films students are encouraged to socialize about the topic of the film. Friendships blossom between students who realize that they both like the same type of films and in turn builds up the courage of both students. Living in a world of technology, we are in danger of losing social contact and creating an isolation in our society. As everything in our world has become, technology involved our social skills have declined. It is easier to text through the internet thus making it difficult for us to actually have a face to face conversation. Hosting film events where everyone is welcome and technology is put away initiates a spark to start a conversation about the film creating friendships.
Filming helps students create a better understanding of the world and have better social skills. Filming isn't just about the movies we see on the big screen but about how we interpret it in a way to show the world. It brings out the creativity in students potentially seeing the club as an opportunity to study film as a major and getting a job in the filming industry.
