Leadership skills are necessary for college success. Leadership skills make it possible for a person to excel in the position they are in and encourage them to strive for the best. College students should be proactive, respectful, and resourceful when it comes to their studies.

In a leadership sense, being proactive means to for see problems in the future and destroy them before they arrive. College students need to be proactive in obstacles such as studying and social life events, so they can balance the two and live in harmony. By being proactive in their school work they won’t fall behind in class or get lost in the studies because they will be on top of their assignments and be able to ask questions when they arise. The social life of college students must be in the balance as well because interaction with their peers and just as important to their college experience as their studies. If college students are proactive in the scheduling of social events they will be able to not only handle their schoolwork but hang out with their friends as well.

Respect is one thing that each and every person should have. Regardless of the context a person needs to have respect for those around them or they will never amount to the place that they see themselves in. With that being said, respect is detrimental to the success of college students and is extremely important in leadership. College students must have respect for their professors. If there is no respect for their professors the work and the class will not be taken seriously and it will result in failure. Respect will not only help college students succeed, but it will continue to help them strive when they graduate and they are thrown into the workforce.

One leadership skill that is sometimes overlooked is resourcefulness. While it may not seem that serious, it is one quality few teenagers and young adults have in this generation. Resourcefulness is important to college success because it shows one’s ability to be able to function on their own with amorphous instructions. College students need to be resourceful in order to be successful because everything is not handed to you in college. The same classes, with the same professors aren’t held everyday, so it is their responsibility to be able to comprehend what is being said and prepare for the future tests and essays. By being resourceful, there would be questions asked and new methods found, and there would be the demonstration of what it is like to figure things out on your own.

The qualities that are in leadership are the same qualities that should be in a college student. The tools for success are within those qualities and should not be forgotten when working towards a goal. College students must possess good leadership skills.
