Reflection of Inspiration by Christian - September 2013 Scholarship Essay

A teacher's responsibility is to share his or her specific knowledge with his or her students. As a student, I often fail to appreciate the time and dedication a teacher has devoted to acquiring this specified knowledge. I forget that the teacher has been in my current state, has experienced the stress of being a student, and has completed the journey of education. Though this is a most simple fact, I did not perceive it until my twelfth grade English teacher, Ms. Johnson, commented to her complaining students that we have it easy when writing research papers compared to her generation. From that day, I was grateful to have the benefits of living now, and Ms. Johnson became an inspiration to me.
Ms. Johnson would be considered a fairly older teacher, so computers were not available to her when she did research for her college papers. Most of her research was gathered from books in the library or personal interviews that pertained to her topic. Also, without the benefits of writing that a computer can offer, she was required to construct her drafted papers on a typewriter. After hearing the manner in which papers were written in the not so distant past, I have a better respect for individuals who wrote without the luxury of computers.
I learned much from Ms. Johnson. One attribute I learned from her is accuracy. She insisted that her students completed their assignments correctly. If we were to do something, we were to do it right, and avoid completing an assignment once again because of mistakes.
There are endless examples of academic inspiration. Ms. Johnson was one that inspired me. I hope that as I proceed to further my educational status, I will grow and acquire the specific knowledge required to express my dedication to others; and someday, I can complete my educational journey to inspire future generations.
