Teachers Worth Remembering by Chase - January 2015 Scholarship Essay

Teachers are the ones who inspire us, help us grow, and guide us in finding our selves. They are supportive from the time they greet us at the door until long after we graduate. Teachers will write recommendations, be there to give guidance, and encourage their students to reach their full potential. Since teachers are so influential it is critical for them to be the best they can be. As many of us have learned there is a fine line between a good teacher and an amazing teacher. One thing that every teacher needs to know to make a difference in teaching is to not be afraid to show students your playful side, it will help students pay attention in class and teach them in a unique way that they will never forget.

Teachers make all the difference between a class being a dull room where one takes their afternoon nap or an exciting class one looks forward to everyday. All of the best teachers are the ones who can keep a class entertained while also going over the material. For example a teacher who can teach a class about the function of the hippocampus by drawing a hippo on the white board. These silly methods stay in our minds and the best teachers are the ones who come up with these ridiculous yet clever ideas to keep it in there.

Although it is important for a teacher to be entertaining, it is paramount for their students to benefit from the silliness. Since some subjects are difficult to comprehend, the task falls to the teacher to make their students understand. The terrific teachers are able to take vigorous courses and turn them into a delightful way to learn. As a result their students pay attention and care about the class, which can make an enormous difference in the classroom. After all would you rather listen to a lecture while taking notes, or play a game of Pictionary about the different kinds of government.

Fun, creative teachers easily entertain their students with goofy rhymes, games, or stories that stay with them for a long time. These teachers stand above the rest, which is why all teachers should know that they shouldn’t be afraid to make fools of themselves. These bizarre methods are the best way to teach uninterested students and make a lasting impression on them. After all, teachers must do what it takes to help their students succeed.
