There is No "I" in Team by charles - March 2015 Scholarship Essay

Leadership is not a necessary skill for being a successful student. A successful student utilizes resources available to him/her and most importantly learns how to work and collaborates and works as a team with other students.

When working in a team with other people, or in this case fellow students, a student learns networking with other people and time management. When a student has a particular issue they will have someone to contact to receive whatever help they needed. If others need help with something then a student takes the opportunity to further strengthen their own grasp of the concept being taught by teaching others. This also in turn puts that student in more favorable light if they ever need with anything else later.

If a student tries to push his/herself into a leadership role among a group of fellow students this will invoke a degree of disdain where others feel the student is controlling or condescending and will not want to work with that student again. This forces a student to fend alone in a classroom environment and/or whatever other activities that student decides to take part in.

Learning to work in a team is a skill that will carry over into whatever carrier a student decides to pursue. As a team people can get work done faster and more efficiently and can accomplish much more difficult and complex projects. Being successful is not about leading or following, it's all about collaborating and working in a team.
