Only Human by Charisse - July 2014 Scholarship Essay
There are a lot of people that have been in and out of my life in the past 18 years. Once high school came around those people have had more than a lot of impact. My psychology teacher of my senior year is one of those people. At the beginning of the school year I had no idea what to expect from Mr. Louchart. He had been a part of the Flagstaff High Eagles family for over three decades and knew his stuff very well. I then had no problem resting the future of my education in his hands.
From the get go Mr. Louchart had appeared to be this very outgoing, loud personality kind of human being but on the inside he was the exact opposite. After school hours were over, it would take him a couple of hours to come off of the hype of all the students and his teaching. It all accumulated a sort of anxiety for him. He then expressed this to his students, me included, and it really helped me realize that this man was nothing but human. He was completely down to earth that it even reflected in his teaching strategies.
Like every teacher he had to deal with high school students who obviously would rather be somewhere else than sitting in a desk for an hour, yet alone six. Then instead of lecturing so boringly, Mr. Louchart would talk to his students and in his lectures he'd give examples from his very own personal experiences in life. This was a way that I thought was more relatable. In the end I was able to exceed in his class due to his teaching tactics.
With this, Mr. Louchart had affected my attitude towards education. His attitude everyday showed me that he is one to care about students education. He had made coming to school worthwhile for me because not only did he teach me the material, but also life lessons. If it wasn't for him I'd probably not be so motivated to go to college like I am doing now.
