Thoughts Between the Dots by Charbill - June 2015 Scholarship Essay

My favorite form of assessment given to us in class is through essay writing. Essay writing makes for a good way to put your thoughts on paper, it is usually easy to write, and conveys students to think outside the box.

With an assessment, it is to test us students on our understanding of the subject and how well we can clearly explain our thought. To me, this form of assessment helps me explain my thoughts and beliefs through just a few sentences instead of something like a multiple choice test where guess and check is usually the best way of completing this test. Also, through guess and check students wouldn’t understand the subject as much as if they had to write about it. On the other hand, through essay writing, many times I will able to write about life experiences that relate to what I’m learning about which I believe helps me understand the subject matter better.

An assessment through essay writing is usually easy to write. Most test assessment contain either a question to answer or just asks for your thoughts and beliefs. Most essay writing assessments ask for a few sentences or sometimes even a paragraph or two. This allows for enough space to convey your thoughts to you reader and is still easy enough to write in an assessment.

Lastly, it allows students to think outside the box rather than guess and check. With assessment writing, students are required to understand the material in order to write about it. If students go to school and memorize what their teacher tell them would be on the test or just guess and check without understanding the materials, then we would have a whole bunch of educated fools which would not be good for the society.

Therefore, essay writing is my absolute favorite form of writing because it guarantees that we students understand the material, and we will be able to tie our thoughts with our learning which will get us to clearly understand the material.
