Radio Journalism: A Portal to Social Change
As an aspiring Journalist, America is an ideal place to make change. The power of free speech allows the people to empower themselves by questioning our systems, understanding one anther, and rectifying injustices through social change. I have particular interest in the power of human voice and radio journalism. Obtaining journalism skills hands on, will contribute to my ability to connect to communities.
To gain experience, I am building a podcast: a radio show accessible at anytime via the Internet nationwide. This podcast will be a portal for listeners to connect to the stories of real people in many social classes, expressing their struggles, how they communicate, and their relationship to the outside world. Using the radio or a podcast as a medium, journalists are able to bring listeners right into the intimate relationship that the reporter presents. Voice allows a human connection that is not always possible with text alone. I hope to develop this podcast as enrichment to my college education. I want to report on real people, and show in depth views that portray the reality of our communities.
Through communication we are able to see our peers, and become cultured. We can gage our place on the spectrum of life and unite to define acceptable standards of society. When we understand our fellow humans, each of us has compassion and ownership for our society.
