Building a Future by Cassidy - October 2014 Scholarship Essay
I think an ideal classroom is different for every person. Some people enjoy individual settings, others group settings. Some people like quiet and others need some sort of noise. Every person has a different ideal learning environment, and mine is probably pretty unique.
My ideal environment is a calm, fairly quiet room. It would be painted in neutral colors that give off a peaceful feel instead of plain white walls that give off no feeling at all. There would be comfy seats because you’re more than likely going to pay more attention if you don’t have to think, “Oh god my back hurts,” all the time. I don’t do great on tests because I can’t stand silence, so in an ideal classroom - for me - would have music playing softly at all time. It wouldn’t be enough to distract anyone, just so there would be background noise. I think that’s very important and definitely a major thing on my list for an ideal classroom. It would help to have a great teacher in the classroom instead of the teachers that don’t truly care about their students, or that don’t even fully understand their subject, because that’s what happens a lot of the time. Good technology would also change how people will learn and make an environment even better. Lastly I think it should have limited rules, because education is a choice; the people who do not want to learn will not learn, no matter how great the environment.
All these things together I think would make a great learning environment. I don’t think you can make someone learn but you can give them all the tools to help them grow and learn, and to me, these are the things I believe would help lead people to success.
