The Phantom Toll Booth by Cassandra - February 2015 Scholarship Essay

The greatest form of learning does not always begin in the classroom. Many times it is formed through the personal relationships between the people in our lives, various experiences we have had, or more often than not in the pages of a book. The book that has had the largest impact on my life would be "The Phantom Tollbooth".The Phantom Tollbooth is an inspiration, and a necessity, for any pre-graduation reading lists. I encourage other high school students to read this book before they graduate because not only does the book stress the importance of learning and knowledge, but also patience, balance, love, loyalty, dedication, drive, and overall not getting caught up in human monotony, that we forget to enjoy everything life has to offer.

I have read this book during numerous stages in my life, beginning in the fourth grade. Each time I flipped through the worn pages, I took another message from it. Each time I placed the book down I am left thinking about how much of my life I breeze through unaware without full appreciation, and how the world is full of limitless possibilities. What could be a more important feeling and thought process for blossoming and upcoming adults?
