Why We Broke Up: The Influence on my Life by Cassandra - May 2017 Scholarship Essay
Why We Broke Up by Daniel Handler, who is also known as Lemony Snicket, is the best book that has influenced my life. It has due to it being similar to my own breakup, it containing my senior quote, and how I have been able to read it over and over. This book has influenced my life for the best and it is truly something I look at my whole life.
Why We Broke Up has a plot line that was similar to my own breakup. I first read this book back when I was in mid to late middle school when I saw it in the public library as a new book. I loved it a lot and kept reading it again and again. When I experienced my first real break-up this past fall, I found myself coming back to this book and seeing similarities in how our relationships worked and how the break-up. It inspired me on how to handle my own break-up, and how I could move on. I really liked the style of it and how it was so relatable. This book helped me when I was at a really low point in my life and I think that is the best influence.
This book by Daniel Handler also contains my senior quote that I used. Our high school yearbook has pages of senior pictures, which also include senior quotes. I have had mine picked out since I was a sophomore in high school since this is my favorite book. The quote is "you could never truly see the movies in my head, Ed, and that's why we broke up." I really liked this quote because people could never seem to see the movies or images I have in my head and understand what I mean. So, this book helped me with what I wanted to say for my senior quote.
Lastly, this is a book I could read over and over. I have read this book multiple times since I was in middle school and my perspective on it changes as I read it over time. I have always loved this book and I found myself reading it a lot when I am sad or need some comfort. This is my favorite book of all time and I plan to continue to use this book for whatever I need in life.
Why We Broke Up is my favorite book of all time and is the book that has best influenced my life. It has done so by being a relatable book, giving me an idea for my senior quote, and being able to be read over and over and not get tired of it. I love this book a lot and it has helped me multiple times in my life. I hope other people read this book, too, since it could possibly help them as well.
