In life, you can choose to be one of two types of people; a leader, or a follower. Leaders are ambitious, take initiative, and take advantage of opportunities that are presented to them. Followers, on the other hand, are dependent on others, apprehensive, and reserved. When it comes to college and being successful, the better type of person to be is a leader. Leadership skills are what make people in college have success in college and in the many years following graduation. Being a leader, you can solidify your future, and reach a goal level of success.

College is said to be some of the best years in an individual's lifetime. Being a leader rather than a follower can get you much more out of these years. Leaders are enthusiastic people who take advantage of every opportunity that is given to them. They work hard and aren't afraid to walk the trail less traveled by. They are very independent, and take jobs into their own hands rather than relying on others to do things for them. These traits are necessities when it comes to being successful in college.

Having leadership skills gives you the ability to solidify your future, because as a leader you gain many more opportunities than a follower would. These opportunities can help you meet a future employer, or someone who can help you with finding a job following graduation. Proceeding this you are able to reach your goals that you have set for yourself, whether short-term or long-term.

Success is achieved by leadership. Leadership can be defined in an infinite number of ways, but to summarize it into one idea it would be that leadership is stepping out of your comfort zone and taking risk to create reward. In this case, the reward would be the long term success in your life following college. Being able to do something you wouldn't usually do in order to meet and exceed goals shows leadership, which is an important thing to have in any student who wants to have success in college and following it for many years to come. You cannot sit around and wait for something to happen, you have to get up and take initiative to create opportunities for yourself.
