Are Leadership Skills Necessary for College Success by Casey - March 2015 Scholarship Essay

As a college student I plan to demonstrate many different forms of leadership. School spirit and involvement is very important to me. Since I am a cheerleader in high school I hope to spread that enthusiasm into my college experience. As I attend Missouri State University I am very proud to be a "Bear" and will support my school in every way possible. This includes going to games, joining clubs, creating study groups, and many more activities. My goal will be to create a friendly atmosphere for those around me and help to lead my school into the right direction. As a college student, I will also be focusing mainly on my academics. I hope to create study groups to help those who are struggling and to possibly help me to better understand the material. I believe study groups can help many students who may be struggling on a topic. Not only would I be meeting new people, but I would also be creating an atmosphere with a friendly attitude.

As a cheerleader, I have learned that it is very important to show leadership towards your school. Leadership not only helps you to learn new things, but it also helps to teach you patience. Patience and perseverance are very important in college. Some assignments might be longer than others so this is when being patient would be very important. Also some may take more effort and this is where perseverance is important to succeed in my college career.

During my later college years, I hope to have developed many lasting relationships among my peers. As all my peers and I will be studying the same major, nursing, we will be working together to help each other reach our own personal goals. Since my class work load will be much more difficult towards the end I will be working harder with my peers to complete the work load. My own goals, along with the goals of others will help my classmates and I strive for greatness. As we push to the best of our abilities to the end of our four years, I will know that I have satisfied my goals of demonstrating the leadership qualities that would hopefully bring me lifelong job opportunities.
