The Smart Solution by Casey - April 2020 Scholarship Essay
Do you want to be a doctor or a mechanic? A lawyer or a plumber? A teacher or a hairstylist? These are all questions you need to consider when planning your next steps. While attending college may be vital for some careers, for others, it is not.
College is not for every person. Whether it is beneficial or not solely depends on what path you are choosing and what your future goals are. If you want to become an accountant, then yes, college is useful. If you hope to discover a cure for Alzheimer, then yes, college is worthwhile. If your ultimate goal is to be a dentist, then yes, college is a priority. However, while you see that college has its time and place, it is not the only way. Furthermore, unless it is an absolute necessity, I recommend avoiding college. It is not a cheap option, and it leaves numerous of people in debt and with a useless degree.
For those who choose not to attend college, a good option would be a vocational-technical school, also known as vo-tech. This is an excellent opportunity for those who want to become a construction manager, an electrician, or a nail tech. Vo-tech offers classes for those who are seeking further education, to learn skills, and to gain experience, but at an affordable price. Again, this is not for every person. However, it may be a smart solution for several.
Other options that are available for those who opt-out of college are joining the military and entering the workforce immediately. However, when considering these options, double-check and verify that they are the right ones for you. The military is a serious commitment, not a game. Walking straight into the workforce is tough work and dedication, not a simple task. Neither of these options is comfortable. However, nothing in life is. You need to focus on what you love and what fits your personality, nothing else.
In conclusion, I do believe that attending college is important, but only for some. For others, it is not. Ultimately, it depends on what you are trying to achieve in your career. There are options besides college. Be smart about it. Some occupations require further education, some extra experience, and others just a willingness to work vigorously. Each person needs to choose what is most beneficial to his or her career, and in the end, we need to remember that the right path for one person is not the right path for another. College can be both important and unimportant.
