The Many Ways of Technology by Casey - January 2020 Scholarship Essay

Although the assignment paper said, "Do not stress," I was beginning to stress. With less than twelve hours left to research, write, and edit a midterm essay exam, every second of my life that evening became crucial. By some miracle, I managed to complete the paper, and get a one hundred on it, and still get five hours of sleep. However, I can say with certainty, if technology did not exist, that would not have happened, and I would have failed.

Before high school, I did not understand why it was crucial to not only have access to a computer for school but also physically own one, especially a laptop. Throughout the past four years, I have utilized technology in thousands of ways for school, in every subject and class, including electives. Although it is possible to perform all activities in the classroom without technology, the advancements that it has provided reduces the hours and stress that come with schoolwork.

Whether it is for notes, a paper, or a project, having access to technology makes it easier to complete homework. It provides historical facts and details for reports, science fair project tips and suggestions, mathematic equation shortcuts and explanations, and a format and auto corrector for English essays. Although libraries can still be useful and beneficial, if I do not have time to go there or if they do not have what I need, electronics are a perfect substitute, being both convenient and resourceful. I can type and search for the information that I need and receive numerous sources and answers. Additionally, I do not have to worry about ruining or returning a book before it becomes overdue.

In addition to research and learning, technology aids in typing papers quickly and flawlessly. Throughout elementary and even middle school, I preferred to handwrite my notes, reports, and projects, as I deemed typing too complicated and hard. However, after my mom forced me to learn how to type one summer, I am now in favor of it. It is more efficient, easier to edit, and less stressful. Furthermore, it reduces back and neck aches and hand cramps, prevents eraser smudges and holes, and overall, looks neater and more professional.

One final way that technology has assisted in my school experience is through providing scholarship opportunities. Without technology, I would have never discovered Varsity Tutors' fantastic scholarships and many more like it. Numerous websites and resources have matched me with hundreds of scholarships that fit my profile. Additionally, technology has made applying for these scholarships easy and convenient.

Between school, sports, church, and other various activities, the way you spend your time, every second, minute, and hour, becomes crucial. With the advancements of technology, throughout my high school experience, I have been able to put my time to good use. Thus, I will forever treasure the resources and assistance that technology has provided for me during my high school years. As I enter college and the workforce, I look forward to seeing the many new ways that technology positively impacts future classrooms, and ultimately the world.
