A life lesson at a young age by Casandra - February 2017 Scholarship Essay
To describe a time I failed at something, I had to think about a substantial event in my life. I was a student at St. Petersburg College about 6 years ago. I was a full time student going to classes, full time employed and ended up in a relationship, pregnant, at the age of 19. I took my 2-week old daughter to my final exams. Regardless of my hard work, I failed at being a student. I ended up being a victim of domestic violence during this time and my grades dropped. I lost my financial aid and stopped going to classes because of it. I not only failed at school, I also failed myself and my future.
Well, I eventually got out of this abusive relationship through a lot of trials and stayed out of it. I learned to never let a man hurt me like that again. I also learned that I usually put others before myself and this leaves me with nothing in the end as a lot of people like to use others. I have to think about myself as well in order to progress in life and be successful. Here I am, 6 years later and enrolled in school again. I am now full time employed, a full time student and a single mother of two daughters. I am determined to succeed this time around and know I can.
