Becoming a better student. by Carrie - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
New year, new me. The famous words of everyone who wants to make a New Year’s resolution. I have never really been one to make New Year’s resolutions. I think it’s a little dumb that so many people think the only time to make a big change to their lives is at the beginning of the new year. If want to make a change I do it, with or without the ringing in of a new year. That said this year I have made one with the hopes of becoming a better student.
My resolution is to work on my study skills. In high school I never really had to study so for college I had a major roadblock. I worked through it for my first semester, but there are still things I can d o to get better. My plan is to actually set out time to study so I am a bit more committed to actually spending the time studying. My other plan is to study with someone else, but keep the group small. I discovered I can work just fine with one or two people to bounce ideas of off when I get stuck, but once the group gets bigger than that my attention span is gone.
This year I plan to use what I have figured out about my study habits in my first semester of college to improve upon them for my next semester.
