Handling My Time by Carmen - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

Going to college will help me aid small rural towns that do not get the basic necessities a larger more urban city has access to based on location and funding. I am interested in an Optometry career because the concept of helping people transition from one stage in their life to another more positive outcome excites me and makes me anticipate what someone can do once they realize, with their new-found vision, what they are capable of in the world full of possibilities. My New Year’s resolution for the 2016 year is to prioritize my time better.
I’m an organized person, I keep a planner, I make checklist, yet I can’t seem to be able to balance out my time. During the winter time it is especially difficult because I participate in sports as well as taking AP classes. Sometimes I would come home late from an away game, that was really really far, and have to stay up to do all my homework for the next day. I have gotten better from a couple years ago, but I still struggle. It takes me awhile to start, but once I do I won’t stop until I finish. It is not a matter of laziness, but a matter of limiting my distractions. I don’t work with the T.V on anymore and I always work in a quiet environment. I hope to eventually stop having to check my phone during my homework times in the upcoming year, especially with college starting in the fall.
