Are leadership skills necessary for college success? Why or why not?

I believe that college success is determined by the student, whether they have leadership skills or not. In the real working world, leadership skills determine whether you are qualified for management or not. However, this does not determine whether you are a good worker or not.

College success can be achieved by any student. In my opinion, the only criteria needed is the WANT. If you WANT to achieve college success, you will. You don’t have to possess leadership skills to do so.

For example, if one student has leadership skills and is active in the Debate team, this doesn’t necessarily mean they WANT to achieve success. Therefore, focusing on the WANT. However, if one student does not possess leadership skills but WANTS to graduate with honors and achieve his/her Bachelor’s degree in Physics, he/she WILL do so.

If leadership skills are necessary to achieve college success, then our percentages would be easily figured and therefore no need for statistics.

We have to believe that no matter if you have leadership skills or not, the main focus is the WANT. A better argument would be: Is a WANT necessary for college success? The answer would be YES! There has to be a WANT to be successful at anything, for example, your job, your marriage, etc.

In closing, focus on the WANT and not so much on the skills. However, skills are important but they are not what get you to success.
