Threads of the Future by Candace - December 2014 Scholarship Essay

I grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania. When I graduated high school, I was so oblivious to everything the world has to offer…I thought I knew it all. Typical, I know, but things aren’t typical unless they have happened often. Right?

I was on my way to college because that’s what I was told was the “right” choice but I didn’t know why…not really, at least. When I arrived on campus my first year, I had no idea what I was in for. When I started college, I was clueless as to what I wanted to study, where, or even who I wanted to be in the future.

Through my liberal arts education, I’ve learned and experienced growth through inquiring about aspects of all fields of study: math, science, politics, religion, literature, business, communications, etc. I have learned that there is so much more outside of my small town in Pennsylvania and that some day, I might be lucky enough to venture, head first, into it. However, hands down, my college education has helped me to better understand my life’s goals and my own personal journey because I used to live in the past in ignorance. Now, I live for the enriching and satisfying threads of knowledge I gain every day in classes, the joys of the present and “living for today,” and the bright promise of the education I’m gaining on my oh-so-mysterious trail that leads to the future.
