Changed me by Cameron - December 2019 Scholarship Essay

Most people consider whether or not to be apart of an organization. In my case, however, I firmly believe that my show choir group choose me. From the end of eighth grade to my senior year, it has shaped me to be the person I am today. Walking into the show choir room even feels exactly how a home should feel to me. Everyone on that team feels like the family I never had, lifts me up, and brightens my day like no overs could.
Growing up in an unstable home, I searched for alternations that made me feel like I could call something my home. I longed for something to replace the gaps in my heart and mind. Up until the end of eighth grade, emptiness is exactly how I felt. It seemed like the day I received the paper that I got in my show choir group, that everything was alright. The many different people I met in show choir had overwhelmed me at first. Not one person seemed ordinary or normal at even the slightest of means. They still excepted a depressed little girl into their family. Every person I bonded with more than my parents ever did, and I love them all to this day.
Having many mental problems at that age, show choir made me forget about it. Even when my fellow classmates noticed my depression or anxiety, they always knew how to help me in the dark moments. Sometimes surrounding yourself with the people you love and care for, is exactly what I needed. They knew the things that hurt me and the things that made me happy in my life. This caused them to usually know exactly what was bothering me. They knew how to cheer me up and sheld me from all my worries.
I believe that being in show choir: it saved me. If I would have never been accepted, no telling where I would have ended
up. It made me actually feel like I finally had a place to call home, and people to call my family. I thank them for all my success and for living me up. They continue to motivate me every day and it one of the only reasons I focused on school and even joined in school activities.
