Thou I have not experienced college applying my high school career to the question at hand I would have to say that leadership skills are necessary for college success. In my senior year of high school it has been my privilege being captain of the Girls Cougar swim team. It was a great experience where the team members looked to me for inspiration, answer to questions or just to have fun. This experience has made me physically and mentally strong.

This past swim season was the most physically and mentally challenging of my high school career because our team was moved up to division two. The team was nervous and scared because the level of talent was obviously higher than of the talent in division three. There was a possibility that the girl’s team would not win a single meet throughout the season and finish last in divisions. Being captain it was my job to inspire the team to not give up and to swim the best possible time every single race because even if it looked like defeat was inevitable anything can happen if you put enough willpower and determination into it. At the end of the season the girls team won one meet and came in 9th out of 10 teams, which surpassed most people’s expectations.

It taught me to be more confident in myself and others, in college I can use these leadership skills I gained form my past experiences to become more confident in the work I do. Even when I graduate from college and go for an interview these skills will be the key to my success in college and my future.
