2016 and Good Habits by Caitlin - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

I’m dedicating 2016 to good habits. By chucking out old ways that don’t serve me constructively and harmoniously, my path to success will now be lead with a clear and understanding mind. It won’t be easy, but I’m confident that I can trust myself to make profitable decisions. A solid foundation that I can rely on will catch me in times of doubt. It’s been five years since I’ve sat in a classroom, I’m a little nervous to be honest, but I possess the formula that best serves me.

Ask anyone who knows me and they’ll say I’m no stranger to hard work. In the past I could be seen working diligently from sun up to sun down, from caring for crippled horses and cleaning stalls to schooling performance horses. With the ways I put in hours back then, I should be a millionaire by now. I was dedicated, driven, and too stubborn to say no to the opportunity. Unfortunately, that opportunity bucked me off and threw me into the dirt; it wasn’t what it appeared to be. Now I have the chance to learn and work toward a goal that best serves my interests and my community. I’m applying my driven, dedicated, too-stubborn-to-say-no conventions towards school work, and with that I should be set for success.

Stressors that come with juggling school, work, family and social life can wring a person dry. I’m learning that keeping things simple usually keeps things in harmony. From eating a simple diet based on quality foods, one grants more access to energy and clarity of the mind. No doubt that’ll give me a boost in school assignments. The same principle applies to how I spend my time with others; keep it simple, balanced, offer quality and honesty, and surround yourself with those things. An uncomplicated, peaceful life positively reflects itself in my work.

Humans are creatures of habit. Finding what works takes a life time of learning, mistakes and accomplishments. My New Year’s resolution for 2016 is based on creating positive and constructive practices that will be of service to reaching my educational and personal goals.
