The dictionary defines success as “an accomplishment of an aim or purpose.” While this definition is, essentially, true, it is also quite broad. I believe that there is more to success than simply achieving a goal. While that in and of itself is commendable and should be celebrated, I also believe that we should stretch ourselves to want more than that out of our successes. For me, success also means finding happiness in what we accomplish. I believe that when we have found happiness and pride in all that we have done, lived through, and learned, we have truly found success.
Success in college for me, then, is learning new things, opening my mind, and finding happiness in that accomplishment. I want to be able to look back on my college years with fondness and keep in touch with those I meet there. I want college to be a place where I learn more about myself and the world around me and find joy in the moment. Though I do believe that grades are important, and we should strive to do the best we can in classes, I don’t think that has to be the main determining factor of success. I think if we are learning to satisfy our own curiosity and follow our own passions, we are sure to find success in our ventures. We must follow our dreams, no matter where they take us. And when we are finally able to reach our goal, when we have found what we have spent so long seeking, then we have truly found happiness and success in our accomplishments.
